NEW SAN DIEGO TROLLEY ROUTES Effective September 2,2012.
Some San Diego trolley riders were in for a surprise this morning when they rode the trolley up from the South. As of this morning, the Imperial St. Transit Center is the primary hub for all three trolley lines. The Green line is the most modified. For example, you no longer need a PETCO shuttle from Qualcomm to go straight to Petco Park as the Green line now goes all the way from Santee, through San Diego State (SDSU) through Mission Valley to Santa Fe Depot and along harbor to the Imperial street transit station, with it’s second to last stop at the Gaslamp/PETCO station.
The green line “Imperial street stop” does NOT pick at the main station tracks where the blue and orange line go through. It is instead BEHIND the convenience store on the track that comes in from the convention center/ gaslamp district.
The blue line also appears on the map to end at America Plaza, across the street from Santa Fe depot. Whereas the Orange line goes the extra stop to Santa Fe Depot where it now ends (as opposed to continuing the downtown loop along Harbor Dr. This causes those that need to get to old town from the South to transfer to the green line, either at Imperial or after getting off at America Plaza and crossing the street to Santa Fe Depot as the blue line no longer goes through to old town and now ends at America Plaza. In addition there is no longer a need to change trolleys at old town to go East through Mission Valley (or beyond past SDSU through Grossmont to Santee) if you board the green line at Imperial, Gaslamp, Seaport Village, Santa Fe Depot (train station,)Little Italy, Washington (airport.)
These changes make San Diego a more liveable, long term, more sustainable city to live, work or play. The improved trolleys are also a welcomed improvement for downtown residents (see downtown condo’s for sale: 92101Home.com) and the Green lines service into Imperial, means a more elderly, disabled and handicapped friendly transit system, as the Green line uses the newer low floor trolley’s that have easier handicapped, wheelchair, stroller and bicycle access.
